A poem for Holy Wednesday

Willing Us Into Life

It is perhaps too easy

to think of

the sheer weight of

pain and grief

weighting you down

upon the cross

until

you died

But no -

I think you chose

death.

You took it in

upon itself

You absorbed it

You went into it

so completely

that it could not

possibly hold you

No -

because you held it

and all of us

and willed us into Life.
